Madison lies within the state's Appalachian Mountain region. The air is fresh and clean in Madison and enjoys a mild climate. Temperatures in January range from an average low of 28 degrees to an average high of 50 degrees and in July from an average low of 66 degrees to an average high of 90 degrees. Annual precipitation averages 52 inches; annual snowfall averages 2.5 inches. Altitude is 624 feet above sea level.

Avid boaters and water skiers can always be seen on the Tennessee River, which is also a fisherman's paradise. For those of you who prefer your feet planted on the ground, golf is one of the most popular pastimes. The area boasts many challenging courses.
If walking and hiking is your pleasure you can enjoy the trails on Rainbow Mountain and walking trials throughout our parks and around the city. Many other planned activities are available through our Madison Senior Center and various organizations within the city.

One of our biggest drawing cards with dedicated educator's tremendous public and private support enables Madison to boast one of the finest educational systems in the State of Alabama. With over twice the national average of college degree residents, we're naturally more involved.
The Madison area is home to the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama A&M University, Oakwood College, Athens State University, Calhoun Community College, and UAH Academy of Lifetime Learning (Elder Hosted).
Madison has a good road system that's constantly getting better. Interstate Spur I-565 adjoins the Southern end of town, and puts you 8 minutes away from Huntsville, our larger neighbor to the East. Wherever you are in Madison, you're probably no more than 10 minutes from our Huntsville/Madison County Jetplex (an international point of entry) serving the area. The Madison area also provides Greyhound Bus lines.
Madison is blessed with over 50 houses of worship representing a wide denomination and faiths.
Traditional worship services, spiritual retreats, revivals, and special festivities allow Madison resident's ample opportunities for their spiritual needs.
