The Madison Chamber of Commerce is proud to share an opportunity for local businesses to take part in an important statewide effort to combat human trafficking.
Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen, in partnership with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, has launched the Alabama Combats Trafficking (ACT) Initiative, a program designed to engage Alabama businesses in raising awareness and helping identify and prevent human trafficking across the state.
ACT is a voluntary, no-cost initiative that allows businesses to play a visible role in protecting their communities. Businesses that choose to participate are recognized on the Alabama Secretary of State’s website and receive educational resources that provide guidance on identifying and reporting potential trafficking situations. Participating businesses also receive a decal to display in a visible location, signaling their commitment to awareness and prevention.
According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, since 2007, 927 cases of human trafficking have been identified in Alabama, with nearly 2,000 victims impacted. Programs like ACT are intended to increase awareness, encourage reporting and serve as a catalyst for stronger community involvement in addressing this critical issue.
The Madison Chamber encourages its members to consider partnering with the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office through the ACT Initiative as part of a broader commitment to community safety, responsibility and leadership.
For additional information about the Alabama Combats Trafficking Initiative or how to get involved, chamber members may contact the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office directly or visit their website.
